Yes — the Higgsfield API is a single REST API for image and video models. Get a key ID and secret in the Higgsfield Console, send a request with curl, and poll the status URL until the result is ready. You pay per second from $0.05, only successful generations are charged, and funds expire after one year. Checked 6 Nov 2026.
Best for: developers and teams who want to generate video or images inside their own app, site or workflow, without opening the Higgsfield web app.
Not for: anyone who only wants to make videos by hand — the web app is faster and needs no code.
Starting price: Pay as you go — no monthly fee (checked 6 Nov 2026). You add funds to a dollar balance; video costs from $0.05 per second. API billing is separate from the web plans — see the full plan comparison for the Starter, Plus and Ultra plans (US).
What is the Higgsfield API?
The Higgsfield API is one authenticated, asynchronous API for image and video models. The docs describe it as a single REST interface that serves image and video models — Seedance, Kling, Soul, Flux, Wan and more. You submit a request to a model endpoint, then poll for the result or receive a webhook when it finishes. The API page lists more than 50 video models.
Authentication is an API key ID and secret pair. Every request carries an Authorization header in the form “Key YOUR_KEY_ID:YOUR_KEY_SECRET”. Official SDKs exist for Python and TypeScript, and the docs include a quickstart that takes about five minutes with curl and jq. The API is a separate product from the web app: it bills in dollars from a prepaid balance, and it does not use web plan credits.
How to use the Higgsfield API
The flow is the same for every model: create a key, send a request, wait for the result, download it. The docs’ quickstart takes about five minutes, and you only need curl and jq to follow it.
Step 1 — Create a Console account and add funds (free to create). Open the Higgsfield Console at open.higgsfield.ai, create an account, and add funds to your dollar balance. There is no monthly fee and no subscription to pick. Note that funds expire one year after they are added, so add an amount you expect to spend within the year.
Step 2 — Get your API key ID and secret (free). In the Console, open the API keys section and create a key. You get a key ID and a secret — the pair is your credential. Treat the secret like a password: keep it on your server, never put it in front-end code, and never commit it to source control. The docs warn that credentials grant access to your account and balance.
Step 3 — Send your first request (cost depends on the model). Send a POST request to the model endpoint, for example https://api.higgsfield.ai/higgsfield/genjutsu/motion-transfer/v1.0 for Genjutsu motion transfer. Every request needs two headers: Authorization: Key YOUR_KEY_ID:YOUR_KEY_SECRET, and Idempotency-Key: a unique value for that request. The idempotency key makes retries safe: the same key returns the original result instead of a second charge. A successful submit returns a status of “queued”, a request_id, and a status_url.
Step 4 — Poll the status URL until the result is ready (no extra cost). Call GET https://api.higgsfield.ai/requests/{request_id}/status until the status turns into one of the terminal states: completed, failed, nsfw, or canceled. Or set a webhook URL when you submit, and the API posts the request_id, status and result_url when the job finishes.
Step 5 — Download the result (free). When the status is completed, download the files from the result URLs. Output files stay available for 7 days after the request finishes, then they are deleted, so move them to your own storage right away. You can also shorten the lifetime with the Hf-Expires-After header, or delete a request early with DELETE /requests/{request_id}.
Step 6 — Estimate the cost before a big job (free). Send a POST to /estimate/{model} with the same parameters you plan to use, and the API returns the price in dollars — the docs’ example for a Soul v2 image returns {“usd”: “0.094”}. Use the estimate endpoint before any large batch so the bill never surprises you.
How much does the Higgsfield API cost?
The API is pay as you go from a prepaid dollar balance. There is no monthly fee, no plan to pick, and no free tier of API credit listed on the pricing page. Only successful generation requests are charged: the cost depends on the model and the parameters, and failed or nsfw requests are not charged — any amount reserved for them is refunded automatically. Funds expire one year after they are added, so the balance is use-it-or-lose-it on a one-year clock.
| Model | List price per second |
|---|---|
| Genjutsu | from $0.318 |
| Genjutsu Light | from $0.050 |
| Seedance 2.5 | from $0.206 |
| Seedance 2.0 | from $0.141 |
| Wan 3.0 Prime | from $0.068 |
| Wan 3.0 | from $0.050 |
| Kling 4.0 | from $0.094 |
| Kling 3.0 | from $0.084 |
| Kling 2.6 | from $0.070 |
All list prices above were checked on the official API pricing page on 6 Nov 2026. The page also shows discounts of 30% to 50% off these list prices, so the price you actually pay is often lower — for example, Genjutsu Light is listed at $0.050 per second with a 50% discount shown, and Seedance 2.5 is listed at $0.206 per second with a 30% discount shown. A 10-second Seedance 2.5 clip costs about $2.06 at list price, and a 5-second Genjutsu Light clip costs about $0.25.
Concurrency is tied to how much you have added recently: 2 requests run at the same time on a new account, 10 when you have added $25 or more in the past 28 days, 20 at $100 or more, and 40 at $1,000 or more.
Higgsfield API vs the web app
The API and the web app are two different products with two different wallets. The web app bills in credits on a monthly plan: Starter $19/mo with 270 credits, Plus $59/mo or $47/mo billed yearly with 1,200 credits, and Ultra $129/mo or $99/mo billed yearly with 3,000 credits (checked 6 Nov 2026). The API bills in dollars from a prepaid balance, with no monthly plan. A web subscription does not give you API access, and API funds do not buy web credits — the credits pack guide covers the web side of credits.
Use the API when you need to generate media from code: inside an app, a batch job, a content pipeline, or an agent. Use the web app when a person makes videos by hand — it is faster to open and needs no code. The web app also has features the API does not list, such as Canvas chains and the in-browser editor, while the API has features the web app does not, such as webhooks, idempotency keys and the estimate endpoint. If you only want to make a video with Higgsfield now and then, the web app is the right choice.
What you can build with the Higgsfield API
The API fits anywhere code runs. A content app can generate a video from a user prompt and show the result without leaving the app. A marketing team can generate a batch of product videos overnight and pick the best ones in the morning. A UGC workflow can turn one product photo into many ad variants — the AI UGC ad workflow shows the same idea done by hand in the web app. And an agent can call the API through the Higgsfield MCP server, so ChatGPT or Claude can generate video and images while it plans a campaign.
Genjutsu motion transfer is the most distinctive model on the API: send a real video and a prompt, and the API rebuilds the footage into a new scene while keeping the motion. It costs from $0.318 per second at list price, so a 5-second transfer costs about $1.59.
Pros
• One API covers more than 50 video and image models.
• You pay only for successful generations; failed and nsfw requests are refunded.
• The async design fits long jobs — submit, then poll or wait for a webhook.
• Official SDKs exist for Python and TypeScript.
• The estimate endpoint tells you the price before you send a job.
Cons
• There is no monthly plan, so costs vary with use.
• Results expire after 7 days — you must store them yourself.
• You have to build your own interface; there is no editor.
• Keys must be kept server-side, which rules out pure front-end apps.
• Funds expire one year after they are added.
Who should NOT use the Higgsfield API
If you make a few videos a month by hand, the web app is cheaper and simpler — a Starter plan at $19/mo with 270 credits (checked 6 Nov 2026) covers a small video project without any code. If you cannot keep a secret on a server, do not use the API, because the key would leak in front-end code.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Higgsfield subscription to use the API?
No. The API is pay as you go and separate from the web plans: you create a Console account, add funds to a dollar balance, and pay per second of generation. A web subscription does not give you API access, and API funds do not buy web credits.
How do I get a Higgsfield API key?
Create a Console account at open.higgsfield.ai, add funds, then open the API keys section and create a key. You receive a key ID and a secret. Send them as the header “Authorization: Key YOUR_KEY_ID:YOUR_KEY_SECRET” on every request. Keep the secret on your server — the docs warn that credentials grant access to your account and balance.
How much does the Higgsfield API cost?
Video costs from $0.05 per second at list price (Genjutsu Light and Wan 3.0) up to $0.318 per second (Genjutsu), and the pricing page shows discounts of 30% to 50% off those list prices. Only successful generations are charged; failed or nsfw requests are refunded. Funds expire one year after they are added. All prices checked 6 Nov 2026.
How long do API results stay available?
Output files stay available for 7 days after the request finishes, then they are deleted. Download them to your own storage as soon as the status turns to completed. You can shorten the lifetime with the Hf-Expires-After header, or delete a request early with DELETE /requests/{request_id}.
What happens if a generation fails?
Failed or nsfw requests are not charged, and any amount reserved for them is refunded automatically. A queued request that you cancel before processing starts is refunded too. If a request fails, check the error_code and error_message in the status response, then fix the input and send it again.
Can I use the Higgsfield API from ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. The Higgsfield MCP server connects ChatGPT and Claude to the same models: open higgsfield.ai/mcp, pick the ChatGPT or Claude tab, and follow the connect flow with the connector URL. The MCP guide on this site walks through the setup and the skill presets for video, image and ad work.
